Each month since my arrival on February 24, I have had a common meeting with the members of the two previous Parish Pastoral Councils (PPC) for the parishes in our collaborative. We agreed to meet together through June 2020 in order to get to know one another and gain a sense of the work of the Pastoral Council (PC) in a collaborative of parishes. In the past, each parish was required to have a PPC. Now, every collaborative is to have one PC whose membership consists of at least two members from each parish in the collaborative. All meetings of the PC of a collaborative are to be held in common.
The purpose of the PC is to assist me in my leadership role planning, organizing, initiating, promoting, coordinating, and reviewing the evangelization, worship, religious education and service active ties within the parishes. The objectives are To assess adequately the needs of the parishes and their members, and to develop and implement a pastoral plan which will promote the common good of the parishes.
To foster unity and a sense of community in the parishes and to coordinate all activities in the parishes in a manner that will best serve the interests of the parishes.
To promote programs and activities recommended by the Archbishop, Archdiocesan offices and agencies as well as the PC itself.
I am grateful to those who have served in the recent past on the PPC of either parish in our collaborative and have decided to step back from serving on the one PC for our parishes as we move forward. In many cases, these people indicated a desire and willingness to explore other opportunities for involvement in our parishes.
